I was looking through this fun little book to find a question I could ask my students to journal on this week — and this was the first one I read.

So strangely enough, this morning I was going through the favorite quotations I have on Facebook under my information. I found this one — and it seems I have forgotten one of my very own favorite pieces of advice.

First Impressions:
This week I started student teaching…grade 12! The school is a pretty country high school…the kids are mostly poor, working 40 hours a week, and not going to college. They are sweet though, full of fun and adventure, and I totally love them.
These 12th graders are desperately trying to guess my age. I heard everything from 19-25! When I say 12th graders, I mean 12th grade boys! These...

Maybe It's Cheesy...
You know that moment you see in the movies…the one where the girl goes out with girlfriends to blow off some steam. She’s dancing under the neon, flashing lights — the disco ball hanging overhead.
Some cute guy comes up to her and starts dancing with her. Maybe even a couple other ones throughout the night. She’s laughing, enjoying herself, and having a great time.
Then...

Doesn’t everyone want that can’t-eat, can’t-sleep, reach for the stars, over the fence, World Series kind of love? It’s hard to find. Don’t throw it away when you do….nothing else will ever come close to it. And you’ll regret it. Forever. Everything else is just details and can be figured out. Don’t be willing to sacrifice the best love you ever...

I think that we all we want the same things.
We want to feel success — people praising us, telling us how wonderful we are, how beneficial we are in our work place, noticing our good effort.
I think we all want good friends to laugh, cry, and dance with — and have the ability to completely be ourselves.
I think above all else, we want love. Someone to lead us into the sunshine of...

Taco and Fajita Night, Always Wins the House
When I went to private school (in high school) the cafeteria was pretty bad. I mean, REAL bad. Most of the time us kids ate a salad and peanut butter and jelly because we didn’t want the main dish. There was one day a week however that held our interest — BURRITOS.
It was as if a breath of fresh air would come in and whisk away all that meatloaf and stew and a tasty, fresh burrito...

Christmas Eve Fondue
Since I was little, I remember always having fondue on Christmas Eve. It’s a tradition I savored. The smell of sauce coming from the kitchen, the tealights being lit, the prong-fork things…it was all so much fun as a kid.
Then when I grew up, I decided to make my own fondue dinner a couple Christmases ago. It turned out OKAY, and this year I knew I wanted to go back to the recipe my...

Food for Gifts
Maybe you think it’s old-fashioned, or perhaps you think that most people don’t appreciate food as a present around the holidays. I remember the Friends episode where Rachel and Monica are broke, and instead of tipping everyone (the super, mailman, etc.) they make cookies for them instead — and everyone hates on them for it!
I’m about to tap the unbidden power of edible...

Absolutely Killer Alfredo Pasta
Pasta is soul food for me. It brings me happiness, joy, and big comfort. I’ve been leering after pictures of homemade Alfredo sauce all week, trying to decide if I should attempt this household name.
We all have had Fettucine Alfredo from Olive Garden, and when we’re 12, that’s the best tasting Italian dish we know. Unfortunately….
I decided it was time for a grown-up...

A Good Holiday Tradition
When my winter break came around about a week ago, I decided it was overdue for me to get some serious reading done. I mean, at least a few books before school starts again in January.
While desperately trying to decide what to read, I scoured my book shelves, dug through Amazon, browsed recommendations on Goodreads…but you know what I really felt like reading?
Harry Potter.
All of...

A Tasty Holiday Punch!
Over Thanksgiving, my sister and I decided we needed a really fance, tasty, refreshing punch to accompany our meal.
With her being pregnant, this punch was decidedly alcohol-free, but it was also extremely delicious and was our first choice. But for those of you that are looking for one to serve with your favorite holiday “spirit” in the next week and a half or so, I’m sure...

A Double Delicious Meal!
I was just visiting my sister this weekend (and longer since I’m done with school for the semester), and we decided to cook dinner one night. We made two different dishes for all of us to choose from, and we wanted to make something quick, easy, and delicious.
I decided to cook Chicken Salad Toasty (made with mock-meat chicken, but can easily be made with real chicken). This is SO easy to...

Homemade Sloppy Joes -- From Scratch!
I decided it was time to step outside the mold and begin creating my own recipes. I enjoy trying other peoples’ creations immensely — and will still be cooking/baking out of books and websites (namely The Pioneer Woman), but I’ve been cooking long enough now and seem to have a natural talent for it, that I decided I should try to start stepping outside the recipe-strict zone.

Dedicated to All My Dear LGBT Friends...
This is a post I’ve been wanting to write for some time. But today, after watching a recorded episode of Our America with Lisa Ling, one of the best shows on TV in my opinion, I knew I had to write.
The episode I just watched discussed the gay community in America who is trying to “overcome” being gay because they’re Christian. And, as Christians, they believe that by...

My Adventures in the Land of Pot Roast
Since I have religiously watched every single episode of The Pioneer Woman’s Food Network show, I saw her episode of the Perfect Pot Roast. I’ve been thinking about making it ever since, and this past Sunday provided the perfect day for it. I picked up all my necessary ingredients the night before, and around 11 AM on Sunday, I entered the journey.
I found I was a bit...

Apple Crisp -- Thanksgiving Dessert!
Apple Crisp — Thanksgiving Dessert!
My sister and I never are traditional or predictable — in ANY way. We defy the odds usually, and when it comes to our cooking, that principle stays the same! We decided to do two different kinds of dessert this year for thanksgiving — Apple Crisp and Pumpkin Cupcakes, or what I call, Pumcakes (recipe to come).
Apple Crisp is a dessert that is very close to...
